Colleges and Universities
This northeastern university was established 120 years ago. It has an inner city, 50 acre campus that has been gradually expanding into the adjacent neighborhood areas. The facility management department has been in place for over thirty years and has primarily operated with paper maps and their individual specific knowledge of their campus. The facility management department is responsible for all utilities including electric, telephone, steam, water and sewer.
Needs Analysis:
- No common mapping solutions
- Utility records are outdated paper records or non-existent
- No digital mapping capabilities
Key Issues:
- Repair and maintenance efficiency
- Reporting efficiency for planning and decision-making
- Damage prevention for all utilities
Utility Mapping and GIS Solutions:
- Develop a three-phase mapping solution for the university
- Phase I includes data collection/locating of utilities on most actively usable land; develop common data collection and reporting tools
- Phase II includes second most active/usable land
- Phase III includes third most active/usable land
- GIS database implementation to integrate with university facility management tools
- Training and deployment utilization
